Losses.

This time last year, I was expounding on the virtues of my astronomy professor, Jay White. He really inspired me to be interested in astronomy. A few minutes ago, I read the headline that Pluto was disqualified as a planet, and I thought to mention it to Drew, who is taking astronomy this semester. He said his professor mentioned yesterday that they were going vote on it today. He also said that his professor is a Dr. Viano, that Prof. White left.

So the solar system lost a planet, and Rhodes lost a star.

Ugh.

I'm waaaay too hung over to be packing up to move back to Memphis.

Talked to Ty on the phone today.. he's moved into Iowa now and is starting to feel weird and stuff, now that it's a reality for him. I gave him some advice on what to do when he's feeling homesick (work out or call home or IM me), and of course he has his mix CD that I made for him last week.

I think since I'm behind on packing that I will wait until Mom & Dad get back tomorrow before I leave. I'll be leaving later than I originally planned, anyway, so might as well wait for them before I go.

Playing Catch Up.

Well, I'd say I've been busy with my life, and that's why I haven't posted in a while, but that's not exactly true. I have been enjoying working at Franchise Concepts (the temp job that was only supposed to have lasted 3 days, but tomorrow will begin my 5th week). I had the good fortune to come upon a very beneficial situation there: I had let Joe (principal of my many bosses) know that I was studying accounting at school, and he asked me if I'd be interested in filling in for Katie, the accounting clerk, while she was on her honeymoon. I said I'd be delighted, so for the last week, I've been doing just that: mostly spreadsheets and forms, but it's not all mindless keying in numbers. Pete (staff accountant) has also been setting me to work on some of the stuff he needs retrieved for the audit, which requires a little bit of analysis. I'm not always successful with it, but Pete is patient if he is anything, and that is a very good thing.

I am getting more and more fond of the people I am working with; it's the first real office experience I've had, where there's been an opportunity to actually form relationships with all the people in the place. FCI is a very small company, smaller even compared with Ameren's St Louis call center (which had probably 30-50 people there each day), but it's been very informational.

There's only two weeks before I go back to school. I don't know whether FCI will keep me there both weeks, since Katie gets back this Tuesday, but I hope they do. I hope they find something for me to do. I like the people there, and I like (and need) the paycheck. I'll still be working when I go back to school (as a work-study kid in the Econ/Business department), but the pay is minimal ($5.90/hr) and the hours are few (8-10/wk), so the more money I can make now, the better off I'll be.

There's not much else in the way of news these days. I've been working out a good bit. I went pants shopping today and was able to buy pants one size smaller than usual. I'll probably regret that when I put on my "at school" weight, but I'm thrilled for now.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention.
