Windswept

I used to walk through my garden once a day
Laughing with the lilies, and sharing insights with the irises
And the occasional duck sharing the hospitality of my water lily beds.
But by mere chance our paths intertwined
And I crashed into you, a brilliant supernova
Shattering my quiet white star existence.

Like a gust of wind sweeping a field of dandelions
Sending their seeds — ladies in full swinging white skirts — flying.
Our days together filled were with marvelous new experiences of
Exotic cuisine, cloudbursts, and rollercoaster love.

I didn't have time to laugh with the lilies,
To share insights with the irises and the occasional duck.
Or even remember that I used to do these things.
But, a hotly raging summer storm,
You blew out as fast as your blew in,
Off to explode someone else's world,
And leave them disoriented, blinking, and full of wonder.

As for me, I can’t be bitter.
I'll just go back to my lilies and irises
And perhaps the occasional duck
Sharing the hospitality of my water lily beds.
